Last week I attended the holiday party sponsored by the Women's National Book Association (WNBA) and hosted by local literary agents Michael Larsen and Elizabeth Pomada. I met many delightful folks including Linda Loveland Reid (thanks to Kate Farrell for the photo of us hanging out by the food table). She is the author of several books, including two novels, and she directs plays.
As the party settled down to show and tell about book projects, the question naturally came up about what I was doing at a meeting of an organization dedicated to promoting women's voices. Well, back in October, Ann and I went to our local bookstore to hear four writers of mysteries talk about their work. The event was sponsored by the WNBA, and the moderator announced, "Men may join, too!" So, I did. I also met Ana Manwaring who is active in an association of crime writers called Sisters in Crime. She tells me they welcome "both sisters and misters," so maybe I will join them too. Wrtiers seem to be welcoming an gregarious folks! By the way, Larsen Pomada Literary Agents are the driving force behind the San Francisco Writers Conference which meets here in February. I am looking forward to that.
